Paraphrase of telegram from Sir J. Jordan to Sir E. Grey

No.102 dated June 4th 1909.

Railway Loan.

JUE

I have had an interview with Liang and asked that an

assurance may be obtained from Chang-chih Tung regarding

the British and Chinese Corporation in the sense indicated

in your telegram No.103, last paragraph.

While promising to do all he could Liang urged the

importance of the Agreements being signed at once, as the

provinciel gentry are becoming very troublesome and the

Americans are reviving their claim to a share of the Chengtu

Railway.
